Police have launched an investigation after a plumber found a body of a baby in a garden drain in Grimsby.
Forensic experts were at the property in Scartho Road, Grimsby, carrying out an examination of the scene.
A post-mortem examination will be carried out on Monday and officers have made no arrests. They are trying to establish the age of the baby and the whereabouts of the parents.
Humberside Police said the investigation is in its early stages. Officers were called at 12.50pm on Thursday after they were told the body of the baby had been found in the grounds.
Detective Inspector Christine Calvert said to the BBC that both the plumber and occupants of the house were in "extreme shock" following the discovery.
"The occupants of the house had problems with the drains and have been having some drainage work done, which required a plumber to go into the garden and clear some drains," she said.
"Whilst clearing those drains they've found what we believe to be the body of a baby."
Ms Calvert added that neither the occupants nor the plumber initially realised the blockage in the drain was a baby.
"We've done some house to house inquiries, we're trying to identify where the baby's come from [and] if we can identify the mother. But it's very early stages to identify that child," the detective said.
A Humberside Police spokeswoman said: "The investigation is at its early stages as police work to establish the circumstances of the incident."
