A man has died after he was stabbed in the chest in a former pit village in County Durham, police say.
The victim - a local man in his 30s - was attacked at around 2pm on Wednesday in Kelloe.
The incident on Front Street is thought to have happened close to a hairdressers' salon and a working men's club.
The victim died shortly after he was brought to the James Cook Memorial Hospital in Middlesbrough.
A manhunt is under way for the suspect, with a police helicopter spotted over the village.
Officers were thought to be considering removing a car from near the crime scene.
One local resident told the news agency there was police activity in neighbouring villages as part of the manhunt.
