Former Officer Found Guilty of Gross Misconduct

Following the conclusion of a gross misconduct hearing held on Monday 14th and Tuesday 15th April, a former police officer was found to have committed gross misconduct on five out of six allegations which were put to him.

The former officer, who ceased employment with Cleveland Police earlier this month, was found guilty of sexual assaults on a female victim and the panel concluded that, had he still have been a serving officer, then he would have been dismissed without notice.

He was found not guilty of gross misconduct in relation to an allegation of possession of a knife.

The Chair of the panel has allowed anonymity of the former officer to protect the identity of the victim, who must remain unidentified under Sexual Offences Act legislation.

The former officer will now be placed on the barred list held by the College of Policing, which ensures he cannot work as a police officer again.
