Police hunt man fleeing rest of attempted murder sentence
Detectives are hunting a man convicted of attempted murder who has breached his conditions of release from prison.
Stephen Bennett was jailed in 2004 for shooting at brothers John and Gary Hayes while riding his mountain bike in Everton.
The 34-year-old was serving the remaining part of his 14 year prison sentence in the community when he failed to attend probation appointments last year.
He is also wanted after failing to attend court in December - when he was due to be sentenced for his role in a major drugs conspiracy.
He was due to appear alongside 11 members of a cross-border drugs trafficking cartel dubbed the ‘Scouse Escobar’ gang.
But Bennett, of Crompton Street in Kirkdale, texted his solicitor on the first day of the sentencing hearing to say he had “cold feet” and would not be attending.
A Merseyside Police spokesperson said: “He was recalled to prison on December 24th but despite extensive efforts by the police to find him, he remains unlawfully at large.
“Bennett is also the subject of a crown court warrant having failed to attend Liverpool Crown Court on December 17 charged with conspiring to supply Class B drugs.”
Anyone who knows where he is should call Merseyside Police on 0151 777 5466 or 5469. Alternatively to leave information anonymously call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
